Mass FreeDB Dialog

The "Mass FreeDB" dialog enables you to receive information from the FreeDB database and save it for any number of folders at once. This unique feature helps you to fill in the tags automatically for your music collection by clicking two buttons at a time! The dialog is easy to use and operate and its features allow you to get the correct information for each folder separately.

The folder tree is situated in the center of the dialog. If you click the checkbox opposite the folder name you will be able to select the folder and the enclosed subfolders to receive and to save the information from the FreeDB database. Attention! The work of the dialog recursively affects all the enclosed folders! So before the dialog starts working it is recommended to expand all the enclosed folders and to examine them carefully. In case there are no audio files in the selected folders, the optional warning message will be displayed.

After you select the corresponding folders you can get the information on audio files contained in them by clicking the "Get info" button. The dialog starts working as soon as it receives the information, the current status being reflected in the "Album" cell for each folder and in the progress bar for the whole process. After the work is done the dialog informing you on finishing the work will be displayed. You can turn off this dialog to avoid the further display.

After receiving the information each folder can have any of the three states:

  • no information on the current album has been found. In this case the "Album" column contains the shaded text "[No matches found]".
  • one album has been found. In this case the "Album" column contains the album name and its genre (in brackets). The "Action" field enables you to check the folder to save the received information in ID3-tags of the files located in it.
  • more than one album has been found. In this case the "Album" column contains the list of found albums, their quantity (in square brackets) and their genres (in brackets). You can select the album you want to write using the drop-down list. The "Action" field enables you to check the folder to save the received information in ID3-tags of the files located in it.

When you select the album the bottom window contains the list of the album tracks, and Genre, Artist, Album and Year fields will enable you to edit the received information on the selected album.

To confirm the necessity to save the received information and to protect from occasional writing of the wrong information you should set the proper checkbox state in the right column (the "Action" field). The received information isn't saved by default (the "Ignore" state). The "Select all" button enables you to select all the recognized folders (which have the received information) for writing, and the "Clear all" button cancels the writing for all folders. The saving procedure is performed by clicking the "Write" button.

The "Track autonumeration" option allows you to number the tags while saving automatically (the "Track #" frame). The "Various Artists" option should be enabled if various artists took part in recording the album. For example, it is true for music compilations. In this case the received information is processed in a special way because such track titles also contain the information about the artist and look like "Artist/Title".

The status bar (Status Bar) informs you about the current status of the information receiving or writing process. The "Cancel" button closes the dialog.
